Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream for Everyone

Do you like ice cream?  I sure do.  What I've noticed in the past couple of years is the rising in price for ice cream at the grocery store.  I recently read that there is a current shortage of vanilla which is used in ice cream that may make the price of ice cream cartons rise.  Stock your fridge now!  Even more than the cost of ice cream cartons rising, ice cream purchased at ice cream shops have increased as well.  For the price of one scoop of ice cream in a shop, you can buy almost a whole carton of ice cream at the store!  Such a simple concoction costing so much!  I guess that's what they call supply in demand.

But there is happy news.  Did you know that Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream Shop has Free Cone Day?  Yes, it's true.  I believe twice a year, for the entire day, you can stop by and get your free ice cream scoop.  I don't think there's really a limit to the number of times one person can go in a day.  I'm not sure because usually after one scoop, I'm pretty satisfied.  On this special day, they advertise in their shop window, on their Ben & Jerry's Cowmobile van and have the the cow pass out flyers.  People line up like crazy just to get a scoop of their unique flavor options.  Here are some flavor names:  Chubby Hubby, Phish Food, Cherry Garcia, Chunky Monkey and Late Night Snack inspired by Jimmy Fallon.  I have to admit, I have stood in the line many times!  It's kind of sad though, the Ben & Jerry's we have in our valley is not doing so well.  When it first opened, people were so interested that the place was packed.  Now, the only time I see the place packed is on Free Cone Day.  To find out when the next Free Cone Day is at your nearest Ben & Jerry's, sign up for their newsletter by clicking here!

A little history about Ben & Jerry's...Ben & Jerry's opened up shop in a renovated gas station in 1978.  Started by two college friends, Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield, decided to invest $12,000 of their money into this dream venture.  The shop was located in Burlington, Vermont.  After two month of no profit, they decided to close their doors.  A year later, marking their anniversary, their dream had not yet died.  They decided to continue and started by having their first Free Scoop Day.  Though they have had their ups and downs as well as lawsuits, they are still making headway in the ice cream business!  Go Ben & Jerry!
